Each year, over 25 billion pairs of shoes are sold worldwide. For the most part, these are shoes such as sneakers, sandals and so on, which use Polyurethane and PVC, products derived from petroleum. Sneakers also tend to use EVA (another petroleum product in vinyl form) for the midsole.
90-95% of these shoes are sent to landfills and with only 5-10% being recycled. The problem is that with EVA and PVC sneakers it can create a problem of damaging compounds being released harming us and the environment!
We have created the EUYEN shoe, a sustainable and eco friendly shoe that looks to help combat this problem, while also being fully biodegradable meaning that the shoes can return back to nature!

By using sustainable natural resources, we have reached a high rate of biodegradability.
EVA and PVC containing shoes make up the majority of shoes that people use and dispose of each year. These shoes when they wear out are normally disposed as non burnable rubbish, which is already a large problem, and creates even more unwanted effects due to the low biodegradability of the shoes.
When burnt, EVA releases harmful chemicals and toxins, VOCs (volatile organic compounds) which then end up affecting not only humans but also animal and plant life, as well as more importantly the earth. It leads to the formation of tropospheric ozone, which causes respiratory problems and aggravation of people with respiratory illness.
We at Millaye don’t want to stand by while this happens, and so we came up with the EUYEN Sustainable Sneakers. The sneakers are made with a foamed natural rubber that has a lower impact on the environment.
Our foamed natural rubber material is made using a unique technology that does not use any harmful chemicals or substances. This also means that when disposed of either as non burnable garbage or so on, there is no cause for concern that it will make VOCs.
This makes it completely harmless to humans, animals, plant life as well as the environment.
Natural rubber is made from sap that is collected from naturally growing rubber trees, which means that it is an excellent material to use to combat environmental issues.

Using our innovative foamed natural rubber, we are able to create a much lighter sole. This is because when the rubber is foamed, it has tiny pockets of air trapped and as rubber becomes solid, those air holes are still there, making it rather spongy and light.
As well as this, it is non-slip and rather durable, so it can keep up with other shoes that use EVA or Polyurethane that you would normally be used to wearing.
The EUYEN Sustainable Sneakers solve a lot of problems found in other rubber soled shoes such as weight, grip, weakness to heat, and easiness to become dirty.
Created with highly biodegradable cotton thread that allows for the skin to breathe and can be worn all year round
Uses pigments found naturally in flowers and plants to dye the shoe.
Uses natural rubber glue to help cement the pieces together.
The insole is made of 2 layers of cotton with hemp sandwiched between them

The world produces over 25 billion pairs of shoes and sandals annually.
Only 5-10% of these shoes are recycled while the remaining 90-95% are sent to the landfill.
Enough is thrown away that if laid flat it would cover 95% of the earth’s land mass (not counting Australia).
Our goal at Millaye is to help reduce these environmental problems. We want to create both stylish but also environmentally friendly products. By having people use our products we hope that we can help to create a better brighter world for the future.
We are working to create the best sustainable sneaker around and in doing so we may come up against some challenges. For one the design may change slightly while we look to create the best shoe possible. As well as this, the colour that you see via your monitor or phone display may seem slightly different to the shoe that you receive. Depending on the coronavirus, production may also take longer to finish and to get out to the backers, but rest assured we won't stop until everyone is satisfied!
