Due to the mess tin being both highly water repellent as well as oil repellent, it makes cleaning all the more easier, as it prevents food from sticking to the tin!

The Slip Mess Tin is incredibly low maintenance, meaning you don’t need to worry about carrying a variety of pots and mess tins with you! If you wanted to, you can even use it at home in a variety of ways!

When you are at the top of a mountain or in the middle of a car camping trip, not having enough water for cleaning can be a problem. Cleaning normal tins can take a lot of water, but with the Slip Mess Tin, you can clean it with just wet wipes or normal tissues, and feel happy in the fact that it was easy to clean! You can also help save the environment by not wasting water!

Due to the process of coating Teflon on other mess tins, it means that the already thin aluminium becomes more malleable, which is devastating to a product that needs to be durable! With the way we coat our Slip Mess Tin, it is not as malleable meaning you can feel safe in the fact that it can be squished and squeezed and keep its shape!

In addition to the original version of the Slip Mess tin, we have also created a special red handled version as well!

We have partnered for this project with another outdoor leather goods maker based here in Hokkaido, Japan - “Stepping Stones”.

They are a small group of leather craftsmen that looks to carefully make each product by hand from cutting the leather to sewing and crafting it!

The canvas colour bag is a back that has been washed with a vintage colour and then affixed with a beautifully crafted leather strap to carry the Slip Mess Tin!

COVID has affected the whole world, and for most that means sheltering in place or lockdowns. In some countries, it means that it’s not safe to go out into town or the city, and many try to escape to nature for the weekend.

Camping has seen a rise since the beginning of the pandemic, replacing many trips abroad or to new cities, and is seen as a safe alternative to these other holiday plans!

As avid camping enthusiasts, we have found that camping is a great way to reconnect with nature and yourself, and the one of the best ways to enjoy yourself. We at 8a Garage have been campers since forever and over the years we have come across certain problems and things we want to fix to make our time more enjoyable and less stressful!

One of the biggest hassles that we have come across when preparing for our camping trips is the way we prepare food while out in the wild. Many trips have been filled with overly burnt mess tins, or even flattened mess tins, making our stays all the more difficult.

So we set out to correct this problem, and we have designed and created the Slip Mess Tin . We want to help all campers old and new to the game enjoy their time to the fullest, and with cooking being one of the most basic parts of the camping experience, creating an all round amazing product for both beginners and professionals is our aim!

The Slip Mess Tin is both easy to clean, making those easy to burn foods a nightmare no more, as well as being extra sturdy, letting you not need to worry about crushing it! It can also be used in a variety of ways, for boiling, frying, steaming, smoking as well as importantly for us Japanese campers making great rice! This makes it perfect for camping, glamping or even home use!

8A GARAGE( pronounced in Japanese as Ya A Garage) was created in October 2019 as an outdoor brand. Based in Otaru, Hokkaido, we are a small 3 man team that loves to spend time outdoors.

We have a founding principle of getting people to enjoy the outdoors more, and therefore are trying to research and develop goods that will be beneficial to those that wish to try camping and so on.

We regularly hold a bonfire café here in Hokkaido, the most northern island of Japan. Here we hear other avid campers and glampers.

The Slip Mess Tin is a product of these meetings, after hearing about the troubles many campers have when they go camping and come back with burnt and squished mess tins.

When creating and prototyping this mess tin, the overall opinion was that they would never go back to normal mess tins, which gave us more confidence to launch this product to the wider audience!

Our partner in this project, creating all our leather addons is Stepping Stones, a small outdoor leather crafts store, located up in Hokkaido near us!
